The world is moving toward digitization. The clear evidence is that 5G technology is expanding and increasing its impact tremendously on industrial and economic development as the system is 1.5 times faster than 4G. Statista has reported that Thailand ranks 6th in terms of 5G active users, with 18.3% of total internet access time. The leading 5G technology developer, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has estimated the growth of 5G technology in Thailand to reach $12 trillion or about 6% of global GDP in the next 10 years. By 2037, it is estimated that the value of all 5G related businesses could reach 2.3 - 5 trillion baht, or about 10% of Thailand's annual GDP. Consequently, Thailand could become the center of ASEAN’s 5G technologies in the future.
To put in perspective, examples of countries who have adopted 5G technologies successfully include Japan and China, as they employ automation systems and have reduced costs down by 30%. The leading warehouse leasing company, WHA Group, is also looking to develop innovative service enhancements to meet the needs of their customers. The company commented that robots are now being used in cold storage warehouses, and large e-commerce companies in Thailand have already switched to semi-automated systems, including WHA itself. It is obvious that 5G technology not only has a huge impact on lifestyle but also contributes to logistics enterprises’ formulation of new business models.
