The Covid-19 pandemic that started in early 2020 has impacted every industry in the world. While some industries are more affected, some continued to perform well including industrial coatings. According to a leading global paints and coatings company AkzoNobel, a significant volume growth was observed in the area of coatings for packaging, wood, furniture and coil coatings. In Asia and EMEA, the company saw growth for wood finishes as customers were increasing their online order of furniture. Another global company, Axalta, disclosed the same information that they saw growth for coatings in construction, energy solutions and coil. Another example comes from PPG who observed sharp increase in coatings for consumer electronics segment as well as kitchen, bakeware and small appliance segment due to customers spending more time at home to keep social distancing.
