Electronics industry is one of Thailand’s major industries affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, amidst this unexpected crisis, the industry continues to show positive signs according to Dr. Sampan Silapanad, President of Electronic & Computer Employers' Association:
“The government’s lockdown policy to prevent the spread of Covid-19 prompted most working personnel to be more technology-savvy and use more electronics equipment in daily life. We can see this trend in working from home, attending meetings, distance learning, and telemedicine just to name a few. Therefore, the short-term overview for electronics industry is good. Nevertheless, as other industries are experiencing slowdown, consumers may have less purchasing capacity for new products. At any rate, digital trend is definitely the way forward, so in spite of the slowdown in the next 6-9 months, in the long run the industry will definitely recover.
In the first half of 2020, we saw double-digit growth in the electronics industry compared to the same period last year. It is estimated that purchasing power will gradually return from July until the end of this year, and we may even see a bigger turnaround than the beginning of the year. Overall, it is a good year for entrepreneurs in the electronics industry although it will be a W-shaped curve due to fluctuating demand and supply.
